Okay baconeers, here’s something I’m really excited about. I may have mentioned before that I like heavy beers like Guinness and double black or chocolate stouts. Although you can’t drink a lot of it, I love the depth of flavors and the heartiness; they make me think of good bread or dark chocolate or rich coffee. That’s right. I like beer that doesn’t remind me of beer. So when I heard that Rogue had created a new beer in tribute to Voodoo Doughnuts and the Bacon Maple Bar, well…they had me at Voodoo. My husband is a huge Rogue fan, and I’ve just joined that bandwagon.
I’m sorry to say that I haven’t actually found a bottle in my local pub or liquor store yet, but while I was keeping a lookout, Paste Magazine was posting a nice review that definitely has me anxious to try it. The smoked malts and applewood smoked bacon are highly intriguing. Check out the comments of those who’ve had the pleasure of tasting the new wonder. I will say that upon seeing the photo, my first thought was of Pepto Bismol. I think maybe they were going for pig colored? Or doughnut frosting? I don’t know, but I’m going to need to drink this beer out of a mug, not the reminiscent bottle. If you’re one of the lucky folks who’ve sampled this ale, leave a comment and let us know what you thought! I’ll be sure to report back as soon as I find a 22 of my own.
