I have to be honest with you, readers. My roommate, Marianne, can be a little stingy with the treats. Sometimes I go to the office with her to help out, and for all my efforts I get, like, two treats the whole day. It’s pretty unfair, considering all the support I give her during the day. Fortunately, we have a co-worker named Christine (not the Kevin Bacon-hating Christine, that’s a whole other story.)
Christine seems to really appreciate the work I do around here, and regularly invites me to help out in her office. She’s also plenty generous with the goodies, like these delicious, organic, all-natural bacon and cheddar biscuits from A Dog’s Life. They’re wonderful, like a savory, crunchy cookie. And they’re organic so I can feel good about eating them, even on days when I earn…what, eight biscuits? Plus they’re small, so eight’s really like two. Thank you, Christine, for understanding a dog’s rights and needs. You’re the best.
One really cool thing about A Dog’s Life is that you can submit a photo of your dog, and it could possibly end up on one of their packages! The bag Christine bought has a local dog, Bella, and I think I may be the next best candidate. What do you think of this shot? Don’t I look buff? Do you think I have a chance?

Considered by some to be “the first scientist,” Roger Bacon was a Franciscan friar and English philosopher known for his emphasis on empirical research and experimentation. Bacon studied at Oxford at the tender age of 13, and later became an Oxford master, lecturing on the teachings of Aristotle. As with many famous Bacons, Friar Roger was criticized for his forward thinking and rebellion. He criticized not only his contemporaries within the Franciscan order, but the order itself, which landed him on house arrest.
Bacon tidBits
- Bacon is sometimes credited with writing the Voynich Manuscript and Speculum Alchemiae.
- Bacon championed the scientific method, an empirical style of research whose official development would be credited 300 years later to Sir Francis Bacon.
- This friar was a veritable Nostradamus of the sciences…you really must check out his work. Start here: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Bacon)

Wow. You have to go check out this amazing, step-by-step recipe/photo journal of a breakfast cake. At first sight, I wasn’t overly excited, because it just looks like cake. But you have to read through the whole process. This thing has every delicious breakfast ingredient imaginable: bacon, sausage, peppers, eggs, cheese, Bisquick, and country gravy for frosting. Freaking GENIUS. I kid you not, I will be making this recipe tomorrow morning. Except my country gravy will be made with bacon instead of sausage. Sausage gravy is tres inferieur.
I can’t stop being in awe. I want this cake now. Thanks to the amazing innovators at the blog Veripolis, and thanks to Holly for bringing this recipe to my attention.

In 1962, Arnold Barach dared to dream of a bright future, a world filled with ultrasonic dishwashers, electronic teaching machines, and yes, toaster bacon. Of course! It’s genius! Pre-cooked bacon sealed in aluminum pouches that can be easily re-heated by merely popping them in your countertop toaster. Like a meaty version of a Pop-Tart
In 1975: And the Changes to Come, Mr. Barach explores the many ways our world would change in just less than 15 years. This included kitchen innovations, some which were right on the money. Others, like the combo oven/freezer, didn’t make it so far. Some technology, like the television set that could receive signals from satellites around the world (!) came so true this guy must have felt like Nostradamus.
Seems that spheres were going to have a big year in 1975. Orb-shaped tabletop ovens and hi-fi systems would keep modern homes from appearing too “square.” Wow! Modern day miracles that were both convenient and stylish. I’m sold!
Sadly, I have yet to take delivery of any toaster bacon. I wonder what Arnold Barach would have thought of Bacon in a Can??
Via Bostworld.

Internet, I love you. You let people do and say whatever they want, and you don’t judge them for it. If people want to shout their political views, you give them a soapbox to stand on. If they want to share their beautiful artwork, you provide them a virtual museum. And if they want to make t-shirts and accessories to proclaim their love of bacon, by gum you become a mega-mall of bounty.
The CafePress Bacon Shop has an amazing array of bacon shirts, hats, onesies, panties, aprons, dog shirts, clocks…the list goes on and on. I had a hard time deciding which images to include in this post. There are so many good ones. I loved “OMG IT’S BACON!” and “I’d like you more if you smelled like bacon.” And oh my gosh the “100% Pure Kitten Bacon.” Who are these people and what do they do when they’re not designing bacon t-shirts?
As far as I’m concerned, 90% of my Christmas, birthday, anniversary and bridal shower shopping is now under control. The other 10% will be done at the grocery store. Thanks, CafePress, for making my life so easy. And thank you, Internet, for being my everything.
