Becoming Bacon

October 1, 2008 by Marianne

Well it’s October, my favorite month of the year. As I mentioned yesterday I love the fall. I love that Thanksgiving is just eight weeks away, and most of all I love Halloween! I’ve always been a fan of the creepy costumes, awesome cartoon specials and the way some people go completely off their rockers with decorating. We have a skull collection that decorates our living room year-round. And a little, candle-lit haunted house that lives on a shelf just outside our front door. And a creepy tree votive-holder and ghost sculpture in the guest bedroom. Okay, okay, so I’m one of those people.

In my adulthood, I’ve tried many times to stop dressing up and going to parties…I should stay home and pass out candy, right? I’m a grown up and that’s what we do. And yet I keep getting drawn back in. Two years ago I spent the day at Disneyland with my brother’s family, which was a really nice change of pace. Last year? Disneyland AND a costume party! There’s a part of my brain that’s a perpetual kid.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my Halloween obsession, it’s that you should start thinking about costumes early. If you wait until the week of Halloween, the costume shops will be sold out of all the good stuff and the thrift stores will be stripped bare. And so I offer you this breakfast-themed solution: Bacon & Eggs!

Here are the pros: They’re easy to wear. They allow you to dress warmly underneath them. They’re BACON and EGGS! They come as a set so you and a friend or spouse can match this year. Cute! And at just $50 for the set, they’re relatively inexpensive. The cons: They’re not creepy. At least not in the traditional vampire and ghost sense. But they are pretty funny, and that’s usually just as good.

I’d love to hear what you’re going to be this year…even if it’s just a responsible adult. Leave us a comment with your big Halloween plans!
