If you’ve never heard of Twinkie Chan, then I urge you to rush right over to Scene 360 and check out the interview with this yarn genius! She is absolutely amazing. Twinkie has a mind-blowing talent for creating food-inspired scarves ranging from cupcakes to green salad to pepperoni pizza. I can honestly say I’ve never been so awe-struck by something crocheted. I won’t attempt to do the interview justice here, you’ll just have to go check it out yourself. If your interest is not yet piqued, check out the bacon & eggs scarf.

You can learn more and buy Twinkie’s goods at TwinkieChan.com, or at her Etsy Shop.

Bacon Scarves!

Well, here it is, the last day of September and fall is sweeping over the land. Here in Santa Barbara, the evenings are getting cooler, and we’re having occasionally grey days…in between all the sunshine. But since I love autumn, I’m already pulling out sweaters and beanies and scarves in hopeful anticipation.

This year you can find a number of amazing bacon scarves! This first one from Chrischunski’s Etsy shop is, as listed, “unsettlingly real-looking.” It also looks super warm and snuggly, not something you get from every slice of bacon. It’s made of 100% hand-felted wool and has a price tag of $120, but I think there’s a lot ot be said about both its look and construction. Plus, your cost-per-wear is sure to be small, because this baby goes with everything!

Next up we have another one from Etsy, Redhynes’ crocheted “Everyone Loves Bacon” scarf. Made from 100% acrylic yarn, this won’t be as cuddly as the felted scarf, but will no doubt keep you warm when the wind blows. Also, since the look is a little less realistic, it could pass for mere stripes when you’re in the company of vegans. No bacon here, no sirree. And at a mere $30, this could be your “every day” bacon scarf, reserving the first one for balls and movie premieres.

Another option (and yes there are many more) is this sewn fleece scarf from Baconwrapt. I love fleece and would wear a fleece-lined sweatshirt all winter long if it were work-appropriate. At $38, this lovely neck wrap would give me that fleecey feel with any outfit, while simultaneously proclaiming my love of bacon. Win win. And hey, that fleece is made of recycled bottles! I have no idea how that’s possible, but I like it.

Finally, for those of you who are cash-strapped but fashion-motivated, get yourself a pattern and crochet your own! This pattern from monstercrochet.com can be yours for just $5, and man, that is some good looking bacon. I myself am craft-challenged and will have to go for a pre-fab scarf. And hopefully soon I’ll actually need to wear it. Until then, I guess I’ll have to keep wearing my bacon in my belly. Darn.
